Filem ini dibintangi oleh Varun Dhawan memegang peranan utama, filem ini turut menampilkan Keerthy Suresh , Wamiqa Gabbi, Zara Zyanna, dan Jackie Shroff. Namun, walaupun mempunyai barisan para pelakon yang hebat ternyata filem ini gagal mencapai impak emosional seperti filem asalnya.
Berlatarbelakangkan keindahan Alappuzha, Kerala, Baby John mengisahkan seorang bapa tunggal yang menguruskan sebuah restoran kecil bernama "Toast on Coast" bersama anak perempuannya, Khushi. Baby John yang dikenali sebagai seorang yang humble dan ceria namun mempunyai sejarah lampau yang sengaja disembunyikan demi janji Baby John kepada arwah isterinya. Kehidupannya yang tenang kembali terbongkar dengan campur tangan seorang polis undercover dalam satu sindiket penyeludupan manusia yang mengakibatkan keluarga Baby John di dalam bahaya.
Filem ini menumpukan pada tema membalas dendam, keadilan, dan pengorbanan seorang ayah. Namun keranan filem ini mengambil masa hampir 3 jam membuatkan para penonton hilang fokus dan keseinambungan antara babak tidak sampai kepada penonton. Narrative kesedihan filem ini tidak dapat dirasai kerana flash back yang panjang dan meleret-leret. Sehinggakan sda penonton yang meninggalkan seat separuh pertama filem ini ditayangkan.
Kekurangan utama filem ini:
- Adaptasi Lemah: Skrip tidak mampu membawa kedalaman emosi dan naratif yang kuat seperti Theri.
- Plot Boleh Dijangka: Penonton yang telah menonton filem asal mungkin merasa ceritanya terlalu mudah diramal.
- Penyampaian tidak consistent : Banyak babak yang tiba-tiba berubah dan tergantung yang menyebabkan penonton tidak tertanya tanya.
Baby John mempunyai potensi untuk menjadi filem aksi thriller yang hebat, tetapi kekurangan dalam penceritaan dan adaptasi yang lemah menjejaskan kualitinya. Walaupun persembahan daripada Varun Dhawan dan Keerthy Suresh sangat mengagumkan, filem ini gagal meninggalkan kesan yang mendalam.
