Twins Cathy and Alan don’t pay much attention to elder sister Yvonne ‘s instructions to stay hidden, keep away from the street gangs, and avoid the town guard, so it doesn’t take long for them to be in trouble. Fortunately Cathy has a magical compass that always leads her back to safety. Which is just as well because when she meets Lucky, a magical talking diamond who persuades Cathy and her family to go on a dangerous quest, and Lucky’s diamond power drains, all Cathy has to rely on is her ever trustworthy compass.
Why then is it telling her to enter the Great Forest, the last place she would dream of going to?
Cathy has a choice – trust her magical compass and enter the forest of monsters or ignore it and perhaps risk the safety of her family and the country?
Five orphaned siblings embark on a journey to save a friend. The adventure that later became self-discovery with surprising results.
“When you leave a beautiful place, you carry it with you wherever you go,” lifestyle author Alexandra Stoddard once wrote.
Valinora Troy introduces Nivram as an unimaginable beauty, though it's somewhat dangerous. The beginning of this book reminded me of The Chronicles of Narnia. Each sibling has a strong character and their own ability, helped by the strange gifts left to them by their mother and no ordinary precious stone, Lucky-the princess of a magical shape-changing species.
While the book’s moral concerns are about friendship that is shown between Lucky, Charlie, and the siblings. This book shifts the perspectives from chapter to chapter as they move along with the story. However, I am a bit disappointed about the beginning of the story that I think it is too rushed and lacks development of the story. With a little bit of explanation, it might help to give a strong structure to the story.
Towards the end of the story, I still have one unanswered question and I really hope they will reveal it in the sequel.
